01.24.08Director of Marketing and Public Relations

Round House Theatre -- a LORT theatre with multiple spaces in Bethesda and Silver Spring, Maryland -- seeks an experienced and outgoing individual to lead marketing and public relations for a $3.8M organization in the suburban DC-area. The Director is a senior member of the RHT management team, supervising office staff, box office, and front-of-house operations. Round House produces 5 mainstage and 2-3 second stage shows per season, conducts extensive education and outreach programs, and hosts a variety of partner arts groups in its spaces throughout the year.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic manager and communicator, have proven budget management skills, will demonstrate a track record of meeting and exceeding earned revenue goals, and have superior verbal and public speaking skills to act as an advocate for the theatre in the community.

Responsibilities include: developing a sophisticated media plan for a growing organization, working with commercial ad agency on new branding campaign, building audience through traditional and innovative marketing techniques, implementation of subscription campaigns and single ticket promotion, press releases, website, e- marketing, and community relations. Proficiency in ProVenue and Financial Edge is preferred. Salary: commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.

Executive

Business Manager
Overview: The Business Manager coordinates and maintains all accounting and financial activities as well as insurance, payroll, A/P and benefits programs, in order to maintain accurate and complete documentation of the financial position of the theatre, provide full compensation to staff, ensure compliance with government regulations, and optimally manage risk for the theatre. The Business Manager reports to the General Manager.

  • Process payroll through ADP on a weekly basis.
  • Process all cash disbursements including payment of all check requests and maintenance of petty cash.
  • Verify, record and deposit cash receipts.
  • Monitor cash flow.
  • Assist Development with grants and proposals.
  • Maintain the General Ledger and prepare reports for monthly meetings.
  • Monitor the theatre's assets and maintain the depreciation schedule.
  • Maintain all insurance and employee benefits.
  • Assist with annual audit.
Qualifications:
Bachelors-Degree, preferably in Business or Accounting.
Two years experience in finance or accounting.
Theatre experience preferred.
Experience with Financial Edge and/ or Raiser's Edge preferred.
General knowledge of employee benefits, human resources and/or insurance preferred.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
Attention to detail.
Ability to analyze data.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Temporary Box Office Assistant
The Temporary Box Office Assistant supports box office operations. This temporary position averages 25-30 hours per week during the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, mid-April through mid-August. Occasional evening or weekend shifts may be required.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Taking ticket and subscription orders both in person and over the phone
  • Processing subscription exchanges
  • Answering phones
  • Preparing box office reports
  • Other duties as assigned

Primary Qualifications:

  • Ability to work a fast paced environment with all different types of people
  • Good customer service background and experience with the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Experience with ProVenue Max or any computerized ticketing system and/or previous box office experience is a huge plus.
  • A high school degree is required; college degree is preferred.

Administrative Assistant - Education & Outreach
Round House Theatre seeks a full-time Administrative Assistant / Education to provide administrative support for all Education & Outreach programming at the theatre's facilities, and in schools and community. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: serving as primary contact for program participants and the general public when contacting or visiting the Education Center; processing and tracking departmental revenue and expenses; maintaining departmental records and calendar; assisting with preparation of program materials and supplies; other administrative duties as assigned. Ideal candidates must be able to work in a creative, energetic, fast-paced, youth-oriented environment, and possess the following: Bachelors' Degree and prior professional administrative experience; outstanding customer service skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; highly organized; high attention to detail; strong comfort level with computers; ability to take direction, multi-task, and work independently and as part of a team; general knowledge of theatre production preferred. Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends. This position must submit to a background check and participate in first aid and CPR training. Starting salary in the low-to-mid 20s. Venue Host
Round House Theatre, a professional equity theatre with locations in downtown Bethesda, MD and downtown Silver Spring, MD seeks friendly and energetic part time venue hosts.  Venue hosts are responsible for supervising rental clients in our theatres in Bethesda and Silver Spring and our education center in Silver Spring.  Venue hosts make certain that rental clients adhere to Round House policies and safety regulations while they are in our spaces.

Candidates should have a basic knowledge of technical production, including theatrical lighting and sound. A good sense of humor and the ability to work with all types of people is appreciated.

Corporate, Foundation and Government Grant Officer

Overview: This position designs and implements an effective, comprehensive and ongoing corporate, foundation and government giving program on behalf of the Round House Theatre.  The grant officer will actively pursue new revenue streams from corporations and foundations. Responsibilities include identification and research of prospects, proposal development, submission of letters of inquiry, proposals and grant reports, advocacy and stewardship of corporate, government and foundation gifts.    

  • Works under the supervision of the Director of Development, identifying, evaluating, cultivating and soliciting prospective corporate, foundation, and government funding sources.
  • Collaborates with Producing Artistic Director and Director of Development to develop proposals, budgets, and written material that highlight and summarize the work of the theatre.
  • Serves as a member of the development team by collaborating with colleagues across disciplines on donor strategies. 
  • Files timely contact reports and maintains accurate records for corporate, foundation and government funders.
  • Updates and maintains accurate organizational information.
  • Provides support for Round House Theatre donor events.
  • Represents Round House at events in the community to increase awareness of Round House and its programs.
  • Participates in Round House Theatre advocacy activities at the state and county level.
  • Oversees securing corporate sponsorships for the annual gala.
  • Develops and markets corporate sponsorship packages.
  • Develops, monitors, and implements all corporate giving benefits.
  • Develops an annual plan of work, including specific fundraising, prospect development, and programmatic goals in consultation with the Director of Development.
  • Provides support to the development committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Organizes, trains, and manages volunteers as needed in support of corporate, foundation and government giving program.
  • Serves as contributing editor on all development related materials including, but not limited to: donor solicitations, donor acknowledgments, playbills, and website.
  • Assists with other development and organization related projects as needed.

Organizational Structure
Member of a development team of four.  Reports to the Director of Development

Qualifications
Bachelors’ Degree required.
One or more years relevant experience required.
Superior communication and organizational skills and attention to detail required.
Familiarity with financial information.
Raiser’s Edge experience.
Creativity essential.
Ability to work in a team environment required.
Ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously is essential.
Must be available to work nights and weekends.
Driver’s License required.
Commitment to and enthusiasm for fund raising for theatre and the arts.

THE ROUND HOUSE THEATRE
The Round House Theatre is a 30 year old critically-acclaimed theatre in the Washington Metropolitan area consisting of a 400 seat theatre in downtown Bethesda, a 150 seat flexible performance space in downtown Silver Spring, as well as a large education and outreach program.

Run crew positions
These positions such as follow-spot operators, board operators, stage hands are hired on a show-by-show basis and paid hourly. Technical rehearsals and previews require some day time commitments. The rest of the four to five week run consists of up to eight performances a week. A commitment to all performances is required. Some experience preferred, punctuality, and reliability a must.

Overhire positions
These positions such as electrics hang and focus calls; scenery painting, construction, load-in and strike calls; stitching, and properties construction) vary in terms of required experience and length of commitment. Most positions are paid on an hourly basis with calls ranging from 4-10 hours. Experience, reliability, and punctuality are required.
