2007 Sarah Play Opens Big
The 2007 Sarah Metzger Memorial Play, The Burial at Thebes, a version of Sophocles' Antigone, opened on March 16 to an enthusiastic sold-out house at Round House Theatre Silver Spring. Elizabeth Hagerty, a senior at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, directed the production. The production featured a cast, artistic team, and production staff of students representing ten area public and private high schools: Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School; Georgetown Day High School; Holton-Arms School, Parkdale High School, Richard Montgomery High School; Sandy Spring Friends School; St. John's College High School; Walt Whitman high School; and Washington International School.

THE STORY OF THE PLAY
"Whoever is not for us is against us." As her uncle and king, Creon, desperately tries to rebuild the devastated city of Thebes, Antigone must decide whether to obey the law of the land, or honor her family and the gods by burying her brother against royal decree. This version of Sophocles' Antigone as retold by Nobel Prize Award-winning writer Seamus Heaney takes on a contemporary American voice.

THE CAST
The cast included Adam Ashwell (Creon), Stephanie Bastek (Tiresias), Corey Best (Chorus), Amanda Bestor-Siegal (Tiresias's Guide/Chorus), Hannah Brenton (Ismene), Chuck Hollies (Chorus), Cassie Murray (Antigone), Quilla Otto-Jacobs (Messenger/Chorus), Anthony Pape-Calabrese (Haemon), Bryant Renaud (Guard/Chorus), and Faline Rojas (Eurydice/Chorus).

ARTISTIC TEAM AND PRODUCTION STAFF
Members of the artistic team production staff included Katherine Goldberg (Assistant Director) Elizabeth Walker (Costume Design), Jim Jenets (Lighting Design/Light Board Operator), Alice Ranagan (Sound Design/Sound Board Operator), Shana Ferguson (Stage Manager), Rachael Albert (Assistant Stage Manager).

MENTORS
Round House Theatre faculty and staff members mentored the students in particular areas of production and design including Rachel Grossman (Directing Mentor), N. Eric Knauss (Scenic Design Mentor), Denise Umland (Costume Design Mentor), Matthew M. Nielson (Sound Design Mentor), Justin Thomas (Lighting Design Mentor), Jessica Grove (Production Mentor), Meredith L. King (Cast Mentor), and Wyckham Avery (Mask and Movement Mentor).

TICKETS
Tickets to the three remaining performances of The Burial of Thebes are $15 and may be purchased by phone at 240.644.1100, online, at box office in Bethesda during normal business hours. Tickets may also be purchased at the Silver Spring box office beginning one hour prior to curtain. Performances are March 23-24 at 8 p.m. and March 25 at 3 p.m. at Round House Theatre Silver Spring, 8641 Colesville Road.
